Another Saturday is coming and that means another Saturday completely devoid of decent cartoons. It wouldn’t matter so much if I didn’t have kids, but I do and they miss out on what it’s like to sacrifice hours of sleep to get up to watch as many cartoons as possible – it’s like an American tradition. Because there are no good cartoons, my children will not learn how to be true patriots. Yeah, that’s pretty extreme and I’m really just kidding about that part though I am serious about cartoons being almost a total waste of time. It wasn’t so long ago that the cartoons were good enough for parents to watch and enjoy. ‘Recess’ is still one of my all time favorite cartoons (it didn’t even start showing until I was an adult) and it had much to teach to school age children about what to expect on the playground. I’d pick ‘Gem’ over any episode of the current incarnation of ‘Strawberry Shortcake’. As far as I know they don’t make more than 13 episodes a season anyway so they seem to always be doing reruns. Why not rerun the good cartoons? Bring back Papa Smurf!!
