There’s Someone Stealing the Car - Wait! That’s…..

Saturday 23 February 2008

Sometimes I can’t think up anything to write on this blog. Today I only had to figure out how to start it.

Should it be,

1) ” A funny thing happened on the way to the forum…”

2) “Call me Ishmael”

or 3) “Oh crap, the car’s on fire! Call 911!”

In reality, choice number 3 will start today’s entry. This is a true story of how my husband and I spent last night.

“Oh crap, the car’s on fire! Call 911!”

Husband runs out and starts shooting water on the car with a hose. Wife calls fire department and REPEATEDLY tries to go look at the fire while still on the phone only to be yanked back by the cord. (ok, I look like a chicken with my head cut off sometimes).

Wife completes call and goes outside. Husband requests fire extinguisher. Wife gets it and begins to use it. Husband and wife exchange hose and extinguisher (I don’t know why). Extinguisher is extinguished, fire is still going.

Husband retakes the hose and wife notices a chill in the air. Goes and gets Husband pants. Takes hose while Husband puts on pants. With pants on, Husband reclaims the hose again and continues the battle.

Wife decides Daughter is sleeping in room too close to flaming car and removes her from the vicinity, wakes Children (just in case) and has them sit in the hallway.

Fire Department arrives and battles flames beating in the hood of the car in a valiant effort to get it open and put out the fire beneath. Husband and Wife stand in direct line of smoke coming off fire but realize they should move.

Success! Fire is out.

Blast it’s 1 o’clock in the morning, and no one is awake to call and tell about the big deal.

Husband and Wife realize car is going nowhere fast and is blocking in the only remaining unburnt car. They retire to bed to figure that problem out in the morning.

THE END

Wow! I’m glad that no one was hurt! Which car was it? Were there any clues as to how the fire started?

We needed no clues, as we know our cars well. This one committed suicide. We refused to get it fixed when it busted a cylinder and when the radiator started to leak and when the gas tank started to leak (nothing to do with the fire, though) and when it started emitting a backup sound even though it is not equipped with one. We did get it new tires but that wasn’t enough to appease it and it lit itself on fire.
