What a nifty idea the dropdowndeals promo codes idea is. You download their program to your computer and it recognizes the web sites you’re going to and then it tells you what kind of deals are available for the site. And it’s free.

I’ve had a couple times just in the last week when I’ve thought of something to do and then decided not to because I couldn’t find coupons to use. The budget is tight for most of us, so I’m sure I’m not the only one doing this.

Did I mention it’s free. Let me know how it works for you, if you get it.

Cross Your Fingers It Doesn’t

What a shock to come home from a trip to the library (1/2 mi away) to see that there had been a downpour at my house. Happily there have been no leaks (that I’ve seen, anyway) with our new roof and we can spend time saving up for new doors. Unless the storm coming later in the week has the same kind of hail in it that destroyed our roof last year.

Massage Message

September 30th, 2011 by Admin

If you are thinking of ‘retooling’ and going into a new career, consider the possibility of massage therapy. Who among us has not wished for a massage when we got home from a long day’s work? Well, believe it or not, there are those who actually go ahead and get a massage (I did this once myself and it was wonderful). Message Therapist Jobs (of course I mean massage therapist jobs) do need certification in many places so you need to go to class, but if you’re one of those people who thinks you give great massages but really don’t, you’ll just be doing us all a favor:)

Things You Can’t Get Out of Your Head

September 29th, 2011 by Admin

My husband is trying to expand our kid’s game playing repetoir so he has opened up the world of 80s games to them.  Hero Quest was the first one they tried out but apparently, I takes a VERY long time.  I think they had just finished the first phase when they ran out of steam.  In addition to that, he’s got them hooked on The Gummi Bears cartoon, so I constantly have the theme song running through my head.

Now you can too!

Pictures

September 21st, 2011 by Admin

If you are a photography buff or you just want to dabble in photography, you can look into trail cameras.  These cameras take pictures of wildlife in the wild with the ability to take high quality pictures in the day or at night.  Such unique pictures would be wonderful decorations for your home or perhaps as the merchandise in a side business.

Membership

September 21st, 2011 by Admin

This year, I’m exchanging my membership to the local zoo for a membership to the local botanical garden.  They’re both outdoors, so the summer months are out for visiting, but during the other times of year, I can get more people in for free at the garden.  I’m looking forward to visiting the migratory butterflies in October and maybe picking out a pumpkin as well.

Insurance

September 21st, 2011 by Admin

Just as it is with your other major investments, it’s a good idea to get motorhome insurance if you have one.  The piece of mind that comes with protecting what is likely the second biggest purchase of your life is priceless.  With it, you can ride the roads from New York to California without worrying about anything except where to find hookups.

Gambling

September 21st, 2011 by Admin

My son has his first deck of playing cards and seems to have fallen in love with playing solitaire.   I figure that’s fine as long as he doesn’t start gambling on whether or not he’ll win the game.

You know, cuz he’s playing alone and will have to bet against himself.  Seems like that’d be a bad thing.

Little Helper

If you have to deal with a lot of shipments, you know how quickly you can get sick of using your keys to open each and every box – and how ineffetive it is sometimes. Instead of wrecking your keys you should get something like the Martor USA box cutter. These devices are easy to use and fit in your pocket. And it even has a safety for people like me who have been know to cut themselves a time or two with sharp things.

Disappointed

September 11th, 2011 by Admin

Despite the threat of rain, I doubt it will actually happen. Last night the wind was 40mph and not a drop at my place. Tonight there are ominous clouds everywhere except overhead. I’m tired of being disappointed by my ‘monsoon’.

GPS

September 1st, 2011 by Admin

I must admit I don’t actually have any personal experience with GPS but when you hear about people following the thing’s directions and ultimately driving into a ditch or something, you have to think that you should get the best one around. This is especially true for those who make driving their living – like truckers. If you want the best trucker GPS, you should definitely check into what exactly makes it work and how well it will be updated after you get it.

Tri-Ominos

September 1st, 2011 by Admin

Another ‘blast from the past’ type game that I recently started playing is called Tri-Ominos.  Two to six players can play this game with three sided pieces like dominoes.  But with this game you keep score. ( Maybe dominoes has a way to keep score but, not the way I played.)  Each player draws the predetermined number of tiles from a pile and then each plays one in turn, building on the previously played pieces.  You have to match two or three numbers to be able to place the tile.  If you can’t find a place to play one of your tiles, you have to draw from the ‘well’ until you find one that you can play.  The first one out of tiles wins the round.

Score is kept by adding up all the numbers on the tile you play and adding that to your score.   There are bonuses to be had along the way including one where the winner of the round gets and additional 25 points PLUS the sum of all the opponents remaining tiles.  The first to reach 400 is the game winner.

Treatment Facilities

September 1st, 2011 by Admin

Rehab isn’t just for those suffering from substance addiction like it used to seem.  Recently we’ve all heard about celebrities going into rehab for counseling reasons as well.  There are bipolar rehab treatment centers as well.  This could work as a good way to get a handle on the problem right after diagnosis or during transition periods where normal coping mechanisms don’t work.

Fun Times

September 1st, 2011 by Admin

My list of live shows that I have seen will be growing by leaps and bounds in the coming months as I will be seeing Blue Man Group (woo hoo!) as well as Tim Minchin (also woo hoo).  Blue Man Group I have seen before, both in Vegas and Chicago.  The show is pretty much the same each time but I could watch it 50 times without getting bored.  It’s a TON of fun if you get the chance to go.  As for Tim Minchin, this one is a little bit of a risk since I’ve only ever seen his work in pieces on You Tube.  What I saw was excellent and I’ve also heard great things about his show from other people who have seen it in other venues, so the risk is tiny.  He is a piano playing comedian and if you want to sample his stuff I recommend ‘Prejudice’ for a first exposure.

Annuity

August 28th, 2011 by Admin

Did you know that it is possible to get an immediate annuity?  I really haven’t looked into how this works, but I assume that it involves some kind of up front investment.  Certainly, if this is something you are interested in you should talk to your financial advisor to see if this can be helpful for you.  Also you should think about what the tax ramifications are and see whether or not this would be beneficial for you.

Zapp Zerapp

This particular game is shockingly wonderful for the whole family.  I’ve gotten used to games that look like this being very complicated and heavy on strategy but it turns out you can’t judge a game by its box.  In this game there are 13 containers in which small beads are held.  Each container holds a different number of beads from 1-13 but the number is only written on the bottom of the container and is made visible until the end each round.

One person rolls the dice and then the players shake the containers trying to come as close to the rolled number as possible without going over.  Once each person has made their choice, everyone reveals the number on the bottom at the same time.  The person with the number closest to the rolled number goes first and pieces on the board are moved in much the same way as Parcheesi.

The game goes pretty quickly and even the very young can play.

Addition to Yard

August 28th, 2011 by Admin

One of the coolest features you can add to your backyard is an outdoor firepit. In the winter, it’s great to gather around to warm up and it can give the area a nice focus that a grill certainly can’t do. Of course safety issues need to be addressed but once that’s done, a firepit will be a great addition to your outdoor space.

MEH!

August 28th, 2011 by Admin

Well what a stinker! I went out to water the plants, and my husband’s scooter was missing. Apparently it was rolled off the front porch. So we’ve gone from a 1.25 vehicle family to a 1 vehicle family. Should be interesting getting everyone to work and school in the mornings.

Vacation Home

August 28th, 2011 by Admin

It’s about this time of year when the temperature reaches well above the century mark that I start to think about vacationing far away. In my dreams, my far away place involves a cabin and a lake like the places found at branson lake homes at pinnshores.com. I know this sort of thing isn’t in my immediate future, but it is definitely one of my life goals.

Lie to Me

August 28th, 2011 by Admin

Can’t shows just stick with their format without trying to become a soap opera? “Lie to Me” began as a quite interesting and entertaining show. “Bones” started out the same way. Once the characters begin to ‘develop’ and the ‘relationships’ begin, the show’s doomed. The parts that were once interesting and fresh get pushed to the side to make room for the relationships. Those are just as boring on this show as they are on all shows.
