When we first moved in we did a couple upgrades to the house’s hardware. Mainly door knobs were replaced in this refurbishment. But to save money, we didn’t replace them all – just the ones truely in need. I may have over estimated the ability of 34 year old door knobs to last because since that time (a mere 2 months ago) another 2 knobs have lost their spring. I have to pull them back to a normal position after turning them. I’ve included before and after shots to show you exactly what I mean.

So I think now, these are on my shopping list. I might even be able to afford them before next year since knobs are usually really affordable!

OMG!!!! An actual comment from an actual person. For my loyal readers (hey, mom) you may recall a recent post entitled “Food for Thought”. An actual person posted a comment!!!! (thanks, sis) Of course she’s demanding proof of the veracity of my story. Well here it is:

Turns out I AM edible.

Someone I know, who will remain anonymous, is in need of some new lingerie. There’s a wire sticking out somewhere and it’s killing me – I mean this anonymous person. But the question is, “Where should I shop?” Of course the cheaper the better. I actually spent quite a bit on this murderous wire and it didn’t mean that it stayed put so I figure, less money for them means I can get more bras for me.

A quintuple murder/suicide occurred a mile from my old house. Makes me pretty happy that we left when we did. So far, nothing like that has happened in my new neighborhood. I’m in the BIG city now so that may not hold true for long. And as it happens, in my old city a mile was actually pretty far away.

If only we could get away to the beach.
Granted, living in Arizona, we are surrounded by thousands of square miles of beach. Sand as far as the eye can see. Sand in all directions, an endless beach. With the ocean 350 miles away, it hardly counts.
Traveling to North Carolina and getting one of the Outer Banks vacation rentals would be the ideal vacation spot. On the Outer Banks you are surrounded by ocean on all sides. The folks at Carolina Designs have some great homes for rent. This one has enough bedrooms and (more importantly) bathrooms for everyone in your family to join you on your vacation. The beaches are close, there are historic Roanoke Lighthouses to see, and the Wright Brothers National Memorial is fascinating.
So head to the beach. And make sure the ocean is nearby. The desert doesn’t count.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have any idea how they (as in ‘them’) come up with product codes? I don’t mean the bar code stuff. I mean the code that you write down on the order form when you want a specific item from the office supply store. Like 108R00723. A mixture of numbers and letters seemingly unrelated to the item itself and impossible to remember for the next purchase. If you understand that gobledegook, let me know because I have a weird desire understand this sort of thing.

My daughter looks positively edible. She’s currently covered in chocolate because of a horrible (for me anyway) chocolate cake incident. So I started to take fake bites of her and it resulted in freaking her out. Once calmed down, though she started to do the same thing to me. Either I’ve really messed her up and she will now be a cannibal, or I look positively edible myself. Both actually seem pretty unlikely.

If you’ve been injured and are unable to work, did you know that you may qualify for social security disability? You don’t have to be of retirement age for you to get social security payments. Just paying into the system can mean you’re qualified for disability payments. If you find that you are no longer able to work, you may want to look into this option.

I just tried out a new game called “We Didn’t Playtest This At All”. If you’ve ever played Fluxx, then you can easily get an idea of how this game works. Start with two cards and pick someone to go first. On your turn, you draw one and play one. Game proceeds from there but if my experience is indicative, then it can end very quickly.
The game also seems to incorporate some of my favorite parts of Quelf, like, “The next person to point at someone loses” and “The next person to say ‘they’, ‘their’ or ‘there’ loses”. I love that stuff.
Interestingly, the instructions do not specify how to win and in fact it is possible for the game to end without any winner at all. Watch out for black holes!

I’ve been looking for a way to upgrade my husband’s vehicle from a scooter to something a bit safer. Unfortunately they don’t give away free cars. Sure he’s got a helmet and I the scooters a nice cherry red but who knows how long this is going to work. The scooter doesn’t go much faster than ATV (maybe not even as fast on uphills) and every day he has to call me and tell me he made it to work ok or I worry. I’ve actually gone to Craigslist to see what’s out there. Weird, huh? I;m also now using Shutterfly and Groupon. Pretty soon my name will show up on a Google search and then I’ll know for sure I’m ‘LinkedIn’.
I’m so funny.
