Winner of my “Most Obscure News Story of the Day” award.

George Takei found out today that an asteroid is being named in his honor. The best part of this story, by far, is the quote that Takei gave to reporters. “I am now a heavenly body.” That’s just awesome. Of course you have to imagine him saying that with his distinctive over-enunciated accent.  I hope there’s audio of that somewhere.

On a side note: I was really impressed with Takei’s acting chops in Heroes. I always thought his performances in Star Trek were a little forced and competing with Shatner in over-the-top-ness. Maybe acting in Japanese is just easier.
