It is possible that this very moment in time is not the right time to buy one of the Outer Banks homes currently available on the market what with the weather there right now. But next week is. Coastal North Carolina is a beautiful destination with many attractions and events to amuse you. Having a vacation home there would be idyllic especially if you, like me, are a west coast (or western US) native and have never been further east than the Mississippi River. There would be much easier access to cultural sites all along the eastern seaboard.

Fluxx (not Capacitor)

I mentioned before that I like the game Fluxx. It’s easy to learn and easy to play and as long as you don’t get a person who likes to think really hard about the order they want to play their cards in (I love you anyway sweetie), it’s very fast paced. Fluxx is a card game for 2-6 players and there are many different versions which can be played individually or mixed together for a wild and crazy time (I haven’t been brave enough yet).

The rules: Draw one, play one.

Could it possibly be that simple? Yes it could but usually it’s not because people may play cards that change the rules.

The Goal: Whatever the ‘Goal’ card says. Sure there might not even be a goal until late in the game and the goal may change from time to time (often just as you are about to win) but it is usually having a combination of specific cards on the table in front of you.

Just last night I broke out my latest version: Martian Fluxx and had a wild time with all the adults in the house at the time.

Looney Labs (the makers of this game) also have Fluxx, Zombie Fluxx, Monty Python Fluxx, Eco Fluxx, and Family Fluxx. Did I mention that this is the same company that came up with Nanofictionary (another one of my favorite games).

Bull Market Capitalists

Right now, playing the stock market is an extreme risk for all but the most experienced and most prepared people. It’s still quite volatile and there’s no way to know when a rebound is going to stick. If you choose to get into this market, be prepared to stumble a few times before you succeed. But to keep to a minimum your failures, make sure you go in armed with as much knowledge as you can.

You can’t just look at the NYSE section of the newspaper anymore. You need to find a company that will help with statistical analysis and make sure you have real time access to the current numbers. Check your Forex charts (find people who will give you the charts) and diversify.

Throwback

I gave myself a blast from the past yesterday when I managed to find “Puff the Magic Dragon” on the internet. Not the song, but the movie based on the song. I remember it being really sad and that I cried every time I saw it way back when they were showing it on TV. When I watched it this time, I found the colors to be dull and I wanted to skip parts becasue I was bored, but I can see how my mind was caught up in it as a child since it’s scary to think the boy’s parents could be so worried. I remember thinking he was dying.

Low Maintenance Fire Place

The main thing my husband wishes the house came with that it didn’t is a fireplace. After all the work he’s been putting in on the pool, I’m pretty glad he doesn’t have to look after a fireplace too. And that I don’t have to help him do it. I can just picture myself stuck halfway up a chimney and my kids having to climb up on the roof to drop food down to me. Or not so I can lose enough weight to free myself.

One day, we will probably look into electric fireplaces and see if something like that has a place in this house. They really look good.

Acronyms

Going back to my tread of rants about comments on my blog, I read this one today:

“… You guys possess a wonderful weblog going right here, KIU!…”

My eyes might be getting tired because I read the last part as ‘KILL’ and I got all confused. I looked closer and realised it was a U instead of two Ls and still couldn’t figure it out because my mind went for acronyms I know starting with K and only came up with KIA. All this means is that it took me an extra long time to read 10 words.

Now, I’ve succeeded in making you take an extra long time to read them too and I don’t have to feel so stupid.

New Vitamin Rec

Here’s the latest news for all of you out there trying to have a healthy pregnancy. You need to have regular checkups (not new), you need to eat a healthy diet to avoid excessive weight gain (not new) and you need to take prenate vitamins with dha (this is the new one). Taking vitamins isn’t new but making sure you are taking those with dha is. You may have seen it as an ingredient in baby formula and know that it promotes brain development. It’s also important to get this to the baby before it’s even born. Talk to your doctor about how you can make sure this is happening during your pregnancy.

Some people think there is such a thing as too much stuff. And I agree. But somehow I also think that there is no such thing as too many games. Specifically, I really don’t think it’s possible to have too many Trivial Pursuit games. I know this must be a sickness of some kind since I’ve managed to collect quite a few and have no one to play the game with (my husband grew bored of winning long ago). I’m not into playing alone either. Fortunatly they DO serve a purpose:

Door Knob Adjustment

When we first moved in we did a couple upgrades to the house’s hardware. Mainly door knobs were replaced in this refurbishment. But to save money, we didn’t replace them all – just the ones truely in need. I may have over estimated the ability of 34 year old door knobs to last because since that time (a mere 2 months ago) another 2 knobs have lost their spring. I have to pull them back to a normal position after turning them. I’ve included before and after shots to show you exactly what I mean.

So I think now, these are on my shopping list. I might even be able to afford them before next year since knobs are usually really affordable!
