Theater sales

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

With everybody jumping ship or getting pushed overboard there are still a few luxuries left and a few deals out there to be had. With your new TV for the digital change over that won’t be happening quite yet, get your home theater seating while you’re waiting for the switch at a great discount. They have a wide selection of styles and materials for everyone looking to be comfortable and entertained.

Flat TV stands

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Even though Congress gave in to the pressure and decided to push back the digital changeover for antenna television, most of you are probably already prepared and ready to go. Now that you have a flat TV you may now be realizing that you have many more options of where to put your new TV than you had in the past. Look at tv stands made of solid wood that add a great look and a little storage to your room.

LCD TV

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Now that we’re officially in the new year, it is only a matter of days before your television will stop working. The traditional standard definition television channels will go off the air later this year. Now is a good time to start looking for a new high definition TV to replace the old boob tube. Might as well make it an LCD TV. Shop around online to find the best deal.

Best Quiz Ever

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

And while we’re on the topic of online quizzes. Here is the best online quiz absolutely ever.

Troy McClure Film or Actual Terrible Movie

“You may remember him from such hits as Christmas Ape and Christmas Ape Goes to Summer Camp, but how well do you remember Troy McClure’s other projects? Can you tell which of the following titles come from the filmography of Springfield’s favorite screen icon and which are the real-life dregs of IMDb?”

And no fair checking IMDb or any other database for the answers.

My personal score first time through the quiz was 11 of 15.

Test your cartoon IQ

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

And not just your general cartoon knowledge full of Spongebob and Pixar, but your true cartoon IQ, your 80′s cartoon IQ.

An 80′s Cartoons Quiz poses 15 questions from many of the most popular and awesome cartoons of all time. The Voltron question was pretty easy, and I’m a little embarrassed about being familiar enough with Care Bears and Rainbow Brite to make a good guess. (I had two sisters, okay!)

My score: 13 of 15. Beat that Sucka’s.

MANAMANA

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

The Muppets have always held a dear, dear place in my heart. Right next to, in fact, my Star Wars heart place. Once again the two have been joined for an amusing music video featuring Vader repeatedly singing, “MANAMANA.” It’s funnier than it sounds, and definitely better the second time watching it. Not as good the fourth time, but much funnier the fifth.

And yes, that was Spock. And yes, Artoo and Threepio do a great job as Statler and Waldorf. And no, I’m not ‘losing it’. And yes, the 14 second mark is the funniest thing ever.

The Shield final season

Saturday, November 8th, 2008

I didn’t come into watching FX networks ‘The Shield’ until about the fourth season, but once I started watching, I was hooked. It’s a unique cop-drama with deeply flawed and unstable characters. This final season has finally seen the sins of the past catching up to Vic and his cop cronies. Each week I sit riveted and wondering how things will finally play out.

My personal guess is the “Hamlet” ending. Everyone dies.

With about three more episodes to go, we’ll all soon find out the final fate of the Strike Team.

Dexter Season 3

Monday, September 29th, 2008

It’s fall again (though still over 100 degrees in the desert) and yet again Showtime is thrilling us with the addictive and twisted show Dexter.

Dexter Morgan is a forensic scientist that also searches out those criminals in society that have slipped through the cracks unpunished and slice them up into little pieces.

The new season features some new characters, new actors (Jimmy Smits), and even a big new twist in the first episode.

So far this is my favorite commercial-free cable TV program. That may change if HBO releases “A Game of Thrones” (hint, hint). I look forward to the rest of season 3.

HBO is awesome

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Before you continue reading, you better have a seat.

Ready?

Ok.

You all know that I’ve been praising the awesomeness of George R. R. Martin’s epic ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series. Earlier this month Martin posted on his website that HBO has just exercised their option and purchasd the television rights to the series. This means that shortly we could see the first book in the series, “A Game of Thrones,” as the first season of the series in just a couple of short years!

This isn’t a done deal yet, and it’s still not definite. But, this is the next step in the process to bring the series to the small screen. Earlier HBO had purchased the option. Now they’ve exercised the option and have purchased the rights. Looks like they may film it in Spain or the Czech Republic.

A short note to HBO. Please make this series. I just have basic cable right now but will become a subscriber to the Home Box Office when they bring this series to their network. Heck, I’ll forever remain a subscriber if this comes to the screen.

Newest Camcorders

Monday, September 22nd, 2008

Now that everyone has an iPod and some sort of digital camera built into their cell phone, it’s about time that we as consumers revisited the camcorder market. There are definitely two ways to go with modern camcorders. Get one that’s really tiny. Or get one that’s fully HD.

Either way that you go, you can just about guarantee that you’ll get the best deal online. They don’t have any store employees to pay. So when you go and buy that camcorder, look for the one that fits your needs best. Make sure you have an HD TV before you go out and get an HD camcorder.

Really nice furniture

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Wow! Now that’s a nice TV stand.

That was my first reaction after going to this site featuring high-end tv furniture. There are many different types of cabinets and other furniture to hold your brand new big screen flat panel television. Even more impressive is the set of TV lifts for the foot of your bed. These elegant pieces of furniture hide away your television and then let it rise when it’s time to watch the tube.

First season Prison Break review

Monday, August 4th, 2008

So I’m not quite finished with the first season of Prison Break yet, but I have like what I’ve seen so far.

I do like how long-running TV shows can extend the plot to cover much more than you could in the average feature film. However, there are times when it feels like the writer’s are trying to pad things out to make through a full season without totally blowing all of their story ideas. Plus it is only a TV show with a limited budget, and it is cheaper to film people talking than to film things blowing up.

The characters have yet to actually break out of prison yet, but you can tell that they’re getting close. Great concept and so far pretty good delivery of the concept. Even my wife is hooked.

Ninja Warrior

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Now that I’ve moved to a region that has the G4 network on basic cable, I can’t get enough of Ninja Warrior, a Japanese game show where contestants move through an extremely difficult obstacle course. Over the past ten years, there have been 20 competitions of Ninja Warrior. Each competition features 100 athletes. That makes an even 2000 competitors. Now here’s the thing. Only two people have ever completed the obstacle course.

It changes every year and usually becomes more difficult. The insanity of many of the obstacles is just incredible. That’s one difference between cultures. This show would never have started in America. We have to have a winner at the end of the competition. It wouldn’t be good enough to have everybody lose. The popularity of the show is growing dramatically in this country, so maybe we will have an American version of this show soon. That would be really cool.

Dr. Horrible is Doogie

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Evidently, during the writer’s strike of 07-08, Joss Whedon (of Buffy and Serenity fame) started writing a musical for release on the internet. The result is Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog.

Okay.

I’m not the biggest Joss Whedon fan and never really got into any of his projects, but Neil Patrick Harris is pretty funny on his new series on CBS, and he looks like he’s having fun here. Looks like it could be interesting if not downright scary.

Python Trek

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

So in the spirit of the strange genre smash ups that I’ve been featuring here lately, let’s take a look at the crew of the starship Enterprise visiting the enchanted (yet silly) castle of Camelot.

My favorite parts would have to be the sheer number of clips from Star Trek involving some dancing or playing music.

My Failing Memory

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

So the TV season is ending and I managed to miss the entire thing.  With the strike and then the delay in the start of the season, I missed when they started back up and now everything is over.

I’ve missed every single “House” and “Grey’s Anatomy”.  I can’t even remember when they’re supposed to be on.

Well I guess I have the summer to refigure out what’s what and what’s when.

No wonder viewership is still down since the strike — no one can remember when their favorite show used to be on.

Playing “House”

Friday, May 16th, 2008

So I’ve put myself out there again when I think I said I wouldn’t but I did it anyway.  I’m trying to diagnose another person’s illness.  I’ve got it narrowed down to gout or hypothyroidism and I think I’m going to guess hypothyroidism for the person.

Don’t worry – the person already decided my chosen method of diagnosis (get a couple symptoms together and google them)  wasn’t the best choice so he/she went to the doctor to get a real diagnosis.

Hey, if I can’t play “House” with the people I know, what can I do to occupy my time?

Lost getting lost

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

After watching this last episode of “Lost” (which I never miss by the way), I got to thinking about how the series has changed over the years. The scene at the end of the episodes features Hurley and Ben sharing a candy bar while waiting for Locke to come back.

Isn’t this the same Ben who’s killed or ordered the death of dozens of people over the course of the show? Wasn’t Hurley kidnapped and then released by Ben and his people? Didn’t Hurley use to spend his time worrying about how to fairly share all of the food that they found in the bunker?

I know that it’s been four years for us, but it’s only been a couple of months for the characters. I don’t think that it’s too much to ask that the characters be allowed to remember what happened is season’s past. Even if it makes it harder on the writers to have people interact.

At least give us some indication that Hurley remembers that he isn’t comfortable around either of these guys. Why would he offer Ben a candy bar?

If my pants could talk

Monday, May 5th, 2008

Wow. What an interesting thought. If my pants could talk, what would they say?

“Please don’t let me fall to the bottom of the hamper again. It’s dark and slightly damp and stinky down there. When you do get around to doing laundry, I get skipped and left in the hamper for weeks when I should be being worn.”

That’s what my pants would say if they could talk. That is, unless they’re my Dockers. Easy to care for, easy to wear, and very comfortable. I always make sure that they’re in the first load so I can put them back into the rotation of clean clothes.

Now that would be an interesting video for someone to enter in the Dockers commercial contest at NBC. Make a video wear the pants are part of a rotation similar to the way that pitchers are part of a rotation in baseball. Some pants end up at the bottom of the hamper never to be cleaned or worn again because they’re uncomfortable. While the Dockers are the ace in the lineup and come out for all of the important occasions. How’s that for an idea for the Dockers contest.

Come up with your own idea and enter it into the contest to win a chance to see your commercial on television.

Dockers style

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

With all the recent posts about Dockers and the Dockers video contest on NBC, I thought I’d write a little about Dockers style. When I’m out looking for slacks at the store, I naturally tend to get a new pair of Dockers khakis. I should probably look into other colors, but they’re just so versatile for whatever situation I’m in. At work they meet the dress code and are still comfortable enough that I’m not stiff and sore after I get home. They’re equally comfortable when I’m at home and just lounging around or cleaning up the place. And that’s kind of my style. At work, at home, comfortable.

I kind of get that same impression from John Cusack. He always seems to be very comfortable in his roles and in interviews. Never in something that buttons up too tight or is in any way uncomfortable.

But remember, there is still that Dockers contest out there waiting for someone to win it and get their commercial aired on national television. If you’re at all talented in any way (or even if you just think you’re talented) edit together a video and enter it into the contest. You never know who’s going to win. (Just like the Grammy’s)
