My mom was recently in the hospital getting her hip replaced so I got to see a new wing of the place. Usually I just see the OB ward – I think you can figure out why. They have these really cool hide-a-computer closets. (You can see some at Howard-Medical.com computer cabinet.) But I think they would be a great way to tuck a computer away at home. Especially if you have limited space and have to have your living room or bedroom double as your office space.

Friday, May 4th, 2012Not Really a Sacrifice
Friday, May 4th, 2012If I had my way, my interior would include a water feature like wall fountains. As long as I only hear the sound of the water falling and not the sound of the motor humming, I think it would be very relaxing. They come in a lot of different designs that I like so I imagine that picking my favorite might be difficult but I’m willing to make that sacrifice.
Comfort for the Home?
Friday, May 4th, 2012If I had known how affordable church chairs are, I would have bought some as furniture long ago. Granted the prices I see are for 100 chairs, but maybe I can just buy them anyway and try to convince people that these would look good in their houses, too. They’re comfortable AND affordable (in large quantities).
Off to see how much they cost individually.
Shades
Friday, May 4th, 2012I’ve been looking for a nice way to cover up my windows. I can’t stand blinds – the dust drives me mad. For the first 10 years that they’re up, I just let the dust gather and then I cave and try to get it off. All that does is leave me with a bunch of black spots all over them. Why, oh why are these things almost always white?
When I finally get the redecorating money together that I’ll need, I’m considering Bamboo shades. They don’t look like I can break them as easily as I do my vertical blinds and they look a lot prettier when pulled up than my horizontal blinds do. And the color will hide any dust that might collect. Wins all around!
Pool Side
Thursday, March 22nd, 2012I’m pretty sure that when you want to get REALLY comfortable out by the pool, you need a zero gravity recliner. It would be a great way to lay out and soak up the sun (using the appropriate SPF sunscreen of course) and also a great way to just sit and read a book. Look for one that has the extras that you want like a drink holder or a sunscreen.
Pumps
Thursday, March 22nd, 2012No I’m not talking about shoes, although that could be nice. I’m talking about the kind o fpump that moves things from one place to the other. Pretty much always liquids. You know what these things are. I might be in the market for goulds pumps soon because I need to drain my pool and I don’t think I’ll be able to siphon that all off with just a hose in a reasonable amount of time.
Wonderful
Saturday, February 25th, 2012Will the wonderful uses for the internet never end. Aside from the fact that I cannot find Michigan Cherries anywhere on it, you can pretty much get whatever you want or need here. Kaufmann fabrics are on the internet. I didn’t even realize until recently that you could get brand name fabrics, let alone that you can get them on the internet!
No Snow Raccoon Eyes
Saturday, February 18th, 2012This might be more appropriate for Europe right now, what with their record snow. Or perhaps Alaska since they are also getting shockingly huige amounts of snow. But just in case you find your self on the slopes doing a little snowboarding, make sure you have snowboarding goggles. They help your eyes from tiring which means you’ll be able to spend more time in the powder.
Just make sure you wear some kind of protection for your exposed skin so that you don’t end up with those crazy raccoon eyes. Yikes!
Telephone Book?
Saturday, February 11th, 2012If you are looking for carpet cleaners Durham NC People, you know that using the phone book is practically useless nowadays. Do they even make those anymore? Actually I know they do because I found one on my doorstep the other day – in miniature.
Anyway – I would recommend looking on the internet to see what your choices are. Also ask your friends (I know that sounds old fashioned) because they may have had experience with a company and really liked them. On the other hand they may be able to steer you away from a company that didn’t work out so well for them.
Good Luck!
Time to Upgrade
Tuesday, February 7th, 2012It’s time for me to look into ipod docks again. The one I have spent too many nights by the stove playing music while my husband fried – food that is. It’s been splattered with so much oil, it doesn’t turn off anymore. And tuning in a station is a temporary thing – if you walk by it, the station changes. Don’t get me wrong, this particular dock has been great to me. It’s just time to get a better one. Maybe something oil proof.
Speaker Quality Important
Sunday, January 29th, 2012Rock stars need speakers. No matter what you do, you have to make sure you’re heard over the din of the crowd that came to see you. And you have to be able to hear yourself in your JBL Control 5 monitor. So, you want to always make sure that your equipment is high quality. I know there’s the desire when you’re just starting out to be able to get the cheapest gear so you can make the most money but when you factor in the inevitable replacement costs, going for quality over price becomes REALLY important.
Keep that in mind when you buy!
Time to Upgrade Your Camera?
Monday, January 16th, 2012Now that Kodak finds itself in troubled financial times, it might be good to find another camera maker. Fuji digital cameras have a good reputation and I intend to look into their products when it comes time for me to upgrade. Which might be sooner than I want – I dropped my camera a while back and now the shutter doesn’t open and close the way it is supposed to.
Tablet Envy
Sunday, October 30th, 2011I am finally admitting to myself my envy for people who have tablets. I keep thinking to myself that I want to spend my money some other way, but it’s not true. I try to tell myslef that if I just get something like a smart phone, it’ll be good enough, but I know I’m just lying to myself. I know that the instant I get a windfall of several hundred dollars, I’m going to put it on my shopping list. At least now I am being honest with myself.
Dating Online
Tuesday, October 25th, 2011If you’re in the mood to try online dating but not sure about how to do it, I encourage you to go the free online dating route. Certainly, if the company is making you pay large amounts of money up front when Facebook can do run it’s website with just ad revenue, then it’s not worth it. What if you pay and don’t find someone – do you get a refund?
Free is the way to go. So go.
Appropriate Times for Cigars
Thursday, October 20th, 2011Apparently you can look for Acid cigars free shipping. I personally wouldn’t recommend smoking them for health reasons, but cigars are a traditional gift for the proud papa to pass out when a baby is born and make a nice display piece. And I’m not so much of a stick in the mud that I do not whole heartedly endorse smoking a good cigar after having taken an alien ship into outer space to infiltrate the lead ship of an invading hoard and defeating them by implanting a virus in their mainframe.
Then I say, smoke away:)
Camera Envy
Sunday, August 21st, 2011It won’t be long before I’m back in the market for a digital camera. My husband is looking at the $50,000 version which we’ll be able to afford a couple years after we die. I am looking at those slr cameras that are lots more affordable and still give high quality pictures. It’s not like I need to take slow motion film at 1000 frames per second. I just want to take pictures at my kids birthday parties.
Gift Giving Made Easy
Sunday, August 21st, 2011My husband sometimes has trouble looking for wedding anniversary gifts for wife, but I never seem to have any problems. I take the kids to the store with me and point them in the direction of the men’s things and have them pick something out. Then I just say that the kids picked it out and he can’t be disappointed. This may stop working in a few years when they out grow cute but until then I’m golden.
Baby Announcements
Thursday, August 11th, 2011Even though we know several people who are likely to have new children soon, I’m sad to say we aren’t likely to see many birth announcements. It seems like the way these things are announced now is over the grapevine. I think it’s time birth announcements made a come back. Not only would it be a boon for the postal business, it is fun to get to know the stats of the little one and sometimes see nice, cute pictures. So if you know someone who is going to have a kid soon, remind them about this tradition and volunteer to do the leg work if they write the check. That’ll help them out and they’ll probably like the idea enough to do the same for the next family.
Fun Stuff
Sunday, August 7th, 2011Diring our recent travels this summer, I came across a lot of different jewelry including glass necklaces and moissanite rings. I managed to pick up one of the glass necklaces with some interesting swirly colors in it at a reasonable price (in other words super cheap – it’ll probably break the first time I drop it). I had all my necklaces and other things stolen a few years ago and I’m just starting to replenish my stash so I hope to include a wide variety of interesting jewelry in the future.
Bridal Information
Friday, July 8th, 2011There are millions of postcards in bridal magazines that let you subscribe to wedding invitation catalogs. What they usually don’t have, at least in my experience, is a way for you to buy bridal shower invitations. Which means there’s no way for the host to buy bridal shower invitations (since we all know you don’t host your own bridal shower – unless you’re me but I’m a bit crass). You have to find another way to fill this particular bridal need.
