New Vitamin Rec

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Here’s the latest news for all of you out there trying to have a healthy pregnancy.  You need to have regular checkups (not new), you need to eat a healthy diet to avoid excessive weight gain (not new) and you need to take prenate vitamins with dha (this is the new one).  Taking vitamins isn’t new but making sure you are taking those with dha is.   You may have seen it as an ingredient in baby formula and know that it promotes brain development.  It’s also important to get this to the baby before it’s even born.  Talk to your doctor about how you can make sure this is happening during your pregnancy.

Self Help

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

In a mysterious turn last week I lost 8 pounds.  No need to fear though, I have regained every ounce.  I actually suspect a rogue battery in my scale for the event.  But just to be on the safe side, instead of switching the battery I bought 2 packages of OREOS and forbade the children from having any.  Now there’s no need to go to the doctor.  I’ve beaten back the crisis single handed (well, actually cookies in one hand and a glass of milk in the other).

Shoes

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

We’ve moved… and all out mirrors are going back up….and I don’t get dressed in the dark anymore….and I’ve become a little bit hairline challenged.   But I’ve got priorities so instead of getting some shampoo for thinning hair or looking into plugs for women, I’m still on the look out for a good pair of summer sandals.  Ones that I won’t break my foot in (sling back) and ones that I don’t have to worry about nail polish for (closed toe).  But it seems that the only closed toe, closed back sandals on the market are called tennis shoes and I already have a pair of those.

Skin Problems

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Sure it may be the fact that I had to go a couple days without a shower since we were moving and I couldn’t raise my foot over the side of the tub since I was so tired but my skin isn’t looking as nice as it did just a couple weeks ago.  SO now on top of the anti aging cream and the weight loss pills I’m reading things like pronexin reviews to help beautify myself.  Thank goodness my better half doesn’t notice all these things since the only thing I really follow through on is brushing my teeth.

Desperate Times

Friday, July 9th, 2010

Summer sun is doing it’s number on my skin.  I’m going to need to find the best anti wrinkle face cream out there and use it on my driver’s arm tan.  It looks a bit worse than the other arm and I’m not ready to become old unilaterally.  Bilaterally sure, but one sided is just weird.   Maybe it’ll work on my farmer’s tan too,

OUCH!

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

I just got stabbed by the cheap peeling laminate on my ‘all wood’ bed.  Who knew that ‘all paper’ counts as ‘all wood’.  I suppose it makes sense when you think about it, but I was really hoping for something made of pine.  Or something in a renewable bamboo.  What I got was four sheets of paper glued together.  We have, over time added a few screws for good measure.  Or really just to keep us alive since it has been known to collapse on us in the middle of the night.  IT would seem that when I roll over, I do it in a very heavy way.

The Other Story

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

As I mentioned, the fact that my husband has been out of it for several days is another story and here that story is.  We rented our old house.  It had grout.  The grout was dirty.  He tried to clean the grout so we could get our deposit back.   He did this for 8 hours.  On his knees. With no knee pads.

When he got home, he couldn’t walk.  By the next day they hurt so much he couldn’t get out of bed.  Then they started to form pustules.  He popped a couple but they kept coming.  By the next day he was in enough pain to call the on call nurse.  She said 2 days bed rest and aspirin.   The next day the pustules started to ooze and it became apparent that each pustule was connected to the others because he could push on one and have gunk ooze out another on the other side of the knee.  It looked like John Cusack after he gets radiation poisoning in ‘Fat Man Little Boy’, just very localized.  The forth day wasn’t much better but he started popping the little buggers more because the pressure was so much.  FINALLY on the fifth day, he started to turn a corner and made it up and down the stairs in less than 10 minutes.  If you touch his knee it still hurts a lot though.  The bruises are diminishing and he’s able to sleep better than before.  He still walks kinda funny though – like he’s saddle sore.

Diagnosis, me?  Pressure sores or chemical burns.  I’m leaning toward chemical burns but can’t find any good pictures to confirm.

Treadmill Requires More Coordination

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

I watched several minutes of ‘Live with Regis and Kelly’ for the first time in years and happened to catch the interview with one of the actors from Twilight.  She said that she watches the show but can’t do it on a treadmill – only when she’s on the elliptical machines.  I’ve tried both and I can’t quite figure out what makes the treadmill harder except perhaps the fact that you’ve holing onto something with the elliptical.  Even so I think I remember a place to put the hands on the treadmill.  (Let’s face it — it’s been a good long time so I might be remembering wrong.)

Lesson Learned

Monday, June 14th, 2010

It’s been a while so I suppose I should head in for a physical.  You know, now that I’m in the worst shape of my life.  I could spend some time before hand trying to improve my physique by just doing general exercise.  But I’m more the kind of person who just likes to game the system.  So instead of working hard every day, I think I’ll just find out what tests they will be performing and train in those ‘events’.

They want me to run 5 minutes on a tread mill?  That’s what I’ll do-  5 minutes each day for a month.  I’ll be the fastest person to run 5 minutes but at 5:01 I’ll pass out from fatigue.

They want me to blow into a spirometer?  I’ll get my own spirometers in all shapes and colors and start practicing my huffing skills.

You get the picture.  Just enough so I can get an A on the test while still having no real knowledge at all.  That’s what I learned in school.

Cancer Causing Agent

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Smoking is the most common cause of lung cancer but it’s not the only cause.   Asbestos cancer is also a prevalent form and results from breathing in asbestos.  That’s why it is so very important to be wearing the proper breathing  apparatus when dealing with the substance.   Sometimes people who know that asbestos can cause cancer don’t know where it occurs in the home.  It can be in insulation, in your ceiling and even in your tiles.  Always use caution when removing these items from the home and know that even if it costs more now, it’s far better than the possibility of a death sentence later.
