Fund Raising for School

Sunday, February 20th, 2011

One of the fund raisers they do at my kid’s school is collecting hp laserjet ink cartridges – well any kind of cartridge really.  The number of fund raisers going on constantly at his school is staggering.  I try to participate in several of them but it’s impossible to remember all the things I’m supposed to be collecting for them.  You may have experienced this as well.

My solution is to go for the big ones and kinda forget about the rest.  As long as those that I’m participating in are things that show up at my house any way (like the very common Box Top collection) I do pretty well (and them by extension).

Give a gift

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

When you’re looking at different charities this Christmas season, especially if you’re going to make a donation to a charity in someone’s name as a gift, then this may be the right choice for you. You buy a donation and give the card. The recipient then chooses which charity to give the money to. This is a great idea for giving holiday gifts no matter how hard someone is to buy for.

Pheww!

Stage One of The Great Move of ’08 is complete.  We’ve gotten everything out of the house and into the storage shed….and my father in law’s place….and my parent’s place.

Who would have thought that we are such good packrats that our one house of stuff would necesitate the use of not one, but two additional houses to store it?

This was AFTER the world’s biggest trip to the local trash cans.  We managed to downsixe by 30 or 40 bags of garbage and still couldn’t fit everything into one place.  I’ve got to say that this is mostly my husband’s fault.  I had to ridicule him viciously for more than a week before he finally devided we didn’t need to bring half empty cans of paint with us.  At the same time, I was forced to give up an extra medicine cabinet that we’ll never use.

Wish us luck for the next three weeks while we live with my parents.

Maybe you should pray….

Donations for charity work

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

It seems that almost every charity nowadays is asking you to donate your car to them so they can put the money to good use. One charity is also looking for people that have boats that they can donate to charity. The process is very similar to the one where you donate cars.

Car Angel uses both the car and boat donation to raise money for the children’s videos that they produce. The videos are free and they’ve given away millions of them. The money goes for a good cause, so look into it if you have an extra vehicle, be it for the land or sea.

Extra boat

Monday, December 24th, 2007

Here in the desert southwest we have a surprising amount of recreational lakes and reservoirs. Most outsiders that move to the area are surprised by the number of options and locations for boating, water skiing, fishing, and other water related activities. You may have to drive an hour or more, but the lakes are around.

However, there are those that go out and buy a boat, yacht, or ship with all the best intentions of taking it out every weekend yet end up just watching the boat take up space in their driveway or backyard. It is important to know that there are many, many charities that would be interested in taking an unused, underused, or just plain run down boat off of your hands. Donate Boat!

Donate my Boat is a great way to help a number of charities, many listed have ties to Arizona. Their website spells out the step by step and easy process to get your boat listed on the site. They will try to sell your boat with the money going to charity. One way or another someone will come by to pick up your boat.

A similar site that deals with car donations also exists to fund similar charities. The site also has lots of information on a series of Children’s Animation DVDS for free.

Earmark taxes for schools

Monday, December 17th, 2007

If you live in Arizona, you need to look into the state tax credits for education. We are the only state in the union, that I know of, where you can specifically earmark the taxes you pay for a specific school. Up to a thousand dollars for a married couple can be donated to any school, even private, parochial, or charter schools, and that money is given as a dollar for dollar tax break come April 15th.

Look into it, desert-dwellers, especially the CTODP

eCards for Christmas

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

This time of year can be hectic and stressful for all of us, what with buying gifts and sending cards and visiting relatives. Of course the Christmas season isn’t just for giving to family and friends — it’s also for giving to those less fortunate. At Month2Month.com you get to do both. They have a free site where you can send out your Christmas cards to everyone in your address book and Month2Month.com will give a contribution to Toys for Tots for each card received. We’ve all seen and heard about Toys for Tots, put on by the Marines each Christmas season, and now you have a way of helping their cause without having to add to the stress of the season. This way you will be wishing everyone you know a good holiday, donating to a wonderful cause and contributing to your own sanity. Isn’t multi-tasking a wonderful thing?
Here’s where to find Toys for Tots free eCards
