Breaking Dawn

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

I waited a solid week after it came out before going to see this installment. It’s been a long time since the last one came out and I really wasn’t in the mood. But compared to the other movies thus far released in the Twilight series, this one has been done the best. ‘Jacob’ is a more believable character, ‘Bella’ doesn’t bite her lip quite as much as she used to and ‘Edward’ stopped sparkling despite their honeymoon in the sun. I enjoyed that this movie hit on all the highlights of the first half of the book, though if you haven’t read it you may need to in order to follow all the nuances.

And that tidbit right there was why this movie, despite being better than the others, is so flawed. Is this the first time we’ve been introduced to ‘imprinting’? It felt like it and the explanation felt forced and incomplete. Are ‘Leah’ and ‘Seth’ related by blood or are they just pack siblings? What’s up with the random other vampires at the wedding? Why are they allowed? How are they family? Why does ‘Bella’ put up with all the hoopla surrounding the wedding in the first place?

All of these questions and more will be yours if you don’t read the book first. But if you do go read the book, the movie becomes a nice recap of the book, but this time with full color pictures.

Happy Returns

When looking for an interesting gift for you better half, corsets and bustiers probably aren’t the first thing to come to mind. But if you are the woman, you may want one to help your figure. So how does a woman get what she wants without the man getting in trouble? You return the gift they DO get you and pick out what you want later (thank them for their effort but say it more nicely than that).

What’s the moral of this story? Keep the receipt.

Blue Pool

Now that swim season is over, my pool is returning to a shade of blue. Wait, what color was it before now? Green, of course. Isn’t that the color of all pools in the summer. The color of putrescence. There’s nothing that taking all the sand out of your pool filter and then refilling it can’t do.

Christmas Shopping Again

You know you’ve got to do it – buy clothing for the man in your life. But where do you go for mens designer clothes? You could look in catalogues or take him with you, but that’s no fun for him or for you. Maybe find someone of similar size and build and take that person along and play dress-up with him. Actually that could get you in some real trouble, so don’t do that. Instead get what you think would look nice on him and keep the receipt. He can go pick out something he likes then.

Thanksgiving

What am I thankful for, you ask? I am thankful for the fried turkey that graced our table yesterday. I am thankful for the tasty leftovers. I am thankful that the fire extinguisher was unnecessary.

I am most thankful for men who cook.
