Vitamins

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

If you’re pregnant your doctor has probably recommended that you take prenatal vitamins.  This is so you and your baby get all the nutrients you need for proper growth and development.  Something as simple as not having enough folic acid in your system at the right time in the baby’s development can result in tragic problems.  Even though those pills are huge, your doctor isn’t trying to torture you by telling you to take them.

Rain on the Way

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Can you say rain?  Apparently we are supposed to get somewhere between 2 and 9 inches of rain tomorrow.  I can’t even fathom how 9 inches could fall in a single day but that’s the more unlikely end.  They said on the news that if we get 2 inches it will be more rain in a single day than in all recorded history (which around here is only about 100 years).  Good thing I know how to swim.

Stretch Marks

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

For those of you out there who don’t know what stretch marks are for, allow me to explain.  When a person gains weight, the skin will sometimes get ugly dents that kind of run in lines.  They start out red or purple and often fade to a silvery white.  For most people, these are permanent even after weight loss.  The weight gain doesn’t have to be from fat – it can be from an increase in muscle too.  That makes the cropping up of stretch marks especially insulting.

Different products and treatments have been produced to help prevent or diminish the appearance of stretch marks and one of the most common is the use of cocoa butter creams on the stretch marks.  Of course then you can have cocoa butter stretch marks because this doesn’t always work.  Asking your doctor for ideas is always a good way to go.

New Year – New Illness

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Another child has produced a sickness able to span the continent.  This one left its recipient capable of using facebook within hoursthough, so I guess that means I’m not producing the super bug mutators and incubators I once thought I was.

What to Do

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Quick trim weight loss is one of those weight loss products used by celebrities to keep fit. Just one of the many ways we as a society can try to lose weight. Who know which is best? Should you stop eating carbs or should you stop eating pasta? Or is it about what you SHOULD eat? Maybe eating enough nuts or drinking enough milk is the way to go. I imagine that the answer is different for different people. The question each of us needs to ask is, what am I willing to do to be healthy and how can I get there in a healthy way?

Leap Year review

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

“Leap Year” is the best romantic comedy so far this year.

Make sure you don’t count romantic comedies that were released at the end of last year and were still out when this year started.

And make sure you don’t think I mean it is the best romantic comedy there will be this year (let us all hope).

But for sure, when you’ve got a yearning for a chick flick (whatever your motivations) and you’ve already seen “It’s Complicated”, you can go see this and you won’t leave feeling disappointed. Because the end is way better than the beginning and the beginning is what makes you feel disappointed so by the time you get to the end, you feel somewhat surprised that it ended as well as it does.

I am a huge Amy Adams fan but this movie does her no justice. Her character (Anna) has no direction and her back story is limited. Our exposure to her father could easily have been left on the cutting room floor – and he’s the character that reveals the reason for the the entire plot line. The other main character (Declan) is verbally abusive and too offensive for me to really get on board with the shift from enemy to love interest – unless I purposefully forgot the first half of the movie.

Which I managed to do. Thereby making my 6 bucks worth my time last night.
