Winter’s Coming

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

With winter coming and my husband’s love of the cold I know I’m going to end up with windows open and buried under 80 blankets every night.  My sister was the same way when we shared a room in our childhood but she offered to leave the window half closed.  Now I don’t know if you’ve ever compared sleeping through the winter with the windows half closed and the windows open completely, but I can testify that there’s no real difference.  Either way you ‘ll find yourself begging for an electric blanket.  At least with my husband I can suck him dry for body warmth  – something that would have been might awkward with my sister.

Busy World

Saturday, September 26th, 2009

The TV’s on, there’s someone knocking on the door, I’m on the phone and my husband is asking me to answer the door.  All this while I’m blogging.  (Actually it’s why I decided to blog.)  And all that leads up to this.

“CALGON, TAKE ME AWAY!!”

I’m dating myself admitting I know that slogan.

Doing Up My Face

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I’ve recently re-begun my facial routine.  I use apricot scrub to exfoliate and then regular soap to defeat the oil.   OK, that was pretty gross.  I suppose my skin isn’t particularly aweful but after exercising, I often find that I break out.  So I need to know what the best acne treatment is.  I don’t have real acne but acne treatment is what it takes to defeat my problems.  I suppose not exercising would have the same effect – or maybe exercising in during the middle of an icy winter.

‘House’ is in the House

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Did I mention that I saw the premier of ‘House’?  I haven’t been watching that as much lately so I missed how two of his ex compadres got involved and totally missed how involved they got.  Fortunately they weren’t in it so it didn’t matter.  The entire thing was set in an insane asylum.  Now we all knew that House was crazy so this isn’t too surprising but my best guess is that he’s still nuts even though they’re going to let him go.  Nothing could top the scene in which he smashes his face into a cake.  To me it felt like his British humor was shining through.

Money Maker? Sort Of

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

In tough times like these you may be looking for ways to downsize or bring in some extra money.  One person in my family found that life was more green (as in flush with money) after getting rid of her car and thereby eliminating the car payment and the insurance payment as well.  It makes sence that the bigger the car the bigger the payment so you can imagine that many people are thinking about how to sell motorhomes that they no longer can afford.  Sure these things have lost value because of the price of gas but if you own yours outright, you are in a position to sell at a low, low price and still make a good deal of money. (Maybe not compared to what you paid for it, though.)

Let the Premiers Begin

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

The new season of shows has started with a bang.  I spent the summer catching up on my ‘Bones’ and the end of last season catching up on my ‘NCIS’.  Last night I got to see the season opener of ‘NCIS’ which was really interesting.  Gibbs looked amazing in his gilly suit and I was certainly impressed by his ability to travel miles in a matter of seconds to twice save his co-workers.  With Gibbs, you feel like this is plausible and not a mess up with the script.  I’m looking forward to the ‘Bones’ premier.  I just have to figure out when it is….

Used My Car Insurance

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I finally used my car insurance for something. I got a chip in my windshield and I got it fixed. It all worked out very nicely. I just called them up (actually my husband did) and set up an appointment. The guy came out, filled the glass, buffed it to a shine and now I don’t need to worry about the thing spreading. Tiny chip taken care of. Oh, YEAH!!

Ouch That Hurts

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Ohhhh what a headache I’ve got. Fortunately my charges today were in a wonderful mood and I was able to keep it at bay until I got home. Maybe the fact that the only liquids I’ve had today have been caffeinated is a possible source of my problem. Maybe the fact that I haven’t taken any pain killer is a possible reason for it not going away. That’s ok because I’m going to bed soon. After cleaning the house and bathing the kids a bit.

Get your rack mounted

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Yeah, I’m sure that I’m not the first to come up with that pun, but it serves its purpose, nonetheless. With the number of companies that need specialized computer solutions to an infinite variety of technical problems, you would need to find a specialized solution in order to get what you need. The people at Core Systems specialize in offering the right solution for each problem and engineering the perfect rack mount for your needs.

Lawful Good

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

After a little break, we return with even more characters from the classic Dungeon & Dragon alignment set. The lawful good character is the typical hero character that stands for truth, justice, and the Krynn way. There are still many variations that can occur within the confines of these goody-two-shoes characters.

Superman – His power resides in that one curl of hair
Batman – But only the TV show version (BAM!!)
Mufasa – Oooohh! Say it again!
Atticus Finch – Doesn’t get any more lawful or good than this
Optimus Prime – Autobots, roll out!
God – Kind of the definition

Lead Life Insurance

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I’ve written plenty of times about how important it is to have an adequate amount of life insurance for you and your family, even in these very interesting times. Interestingly enough, I’ve found that there is a way for life insurance agents to get a number of free leads for prospective life insurance clients. So, in other words, if you’re a life insurance agent or representative, be sure to check all available sources to get a life insurance lead.

Basketball scabs

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Heard today on the radio that the NBA has broken off discussions with their referee union in the course of new contract discussions. The NBA plans to begin training replacement refs over the next few weeks in preparation for the upcoming season.

This whole episode has started me thinking on why I watch less professional basketball now than I have in over 20 years. My next thought was that I don’t watch the NBA anymore because of the refs. It’s a fact that the refs in the NBA have more influence over the outcome of the game than the refs of any other sport. (Except maybe gymnastics.) Having seen the NBA zebras repeatedly affect games either by making a borderline call or by not making an obvious call, it seems pointless to watch anymore. The effort of the players seems to matter less and less each year.

Maybe the new refs will make a difference, but I still don’t think that I’ll be watching any NBA games anytime soon. And that’s kind of sad.

Get a new commish and clean up the refs!

Cheap Cheap Cheap – I’m Not a Bird

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

I found my husband vacuuming the a/c air filters the other day. It’s not like these things are super expensive but for some reason, he decided to vacuum it instead of change it out. I will grant you that shopping for them can be a little hard since you have to know the measurements before you go out. I’m notorious for forgetting that kind of detail and then bringing home a completely different size. Which then goes into the trash. I suppose instead of calling him cheap (or me forgetful) I should think of him as helping the environment (which means I’m not – I suppose our carbon footprints will cancel out).

My Award Show Tradition

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Sunday night I managed to tune into the Emmy’s for my annual peak. And as usual I managed to hit exactly the time that they were doing the montage of all the stars who passed away this year. It really provides a public service to those of us who have a dirth of memory. I had completely forgotten about David Carradine and I was reminded about Paul Newman as well. I don’t know how it happens that this is the part I constantly come across every year. Kinda creepy that my Spidy-sense is aligned with the parade of dead stars.

Bella True jewelry

Friday, September 4th, 2009

As a guy that is always trying to improve on last year’s perfect gift, it is sometimes hard to live up to the reputation of an awesome gift-giver. Well, the folks at Bella True have assembled an excellent list of ideas and tips to give us men great ways to keep our ladies happy.

Even I had started to run low on ideas until I saw the tips on this site. A necklace for Christmas, earrings on Valentine’s Day, or a bracelet for Mother’s Day. With all of the special days throughout the year that you celebrate with your special lady, you’ll need plenty of ideas of gifts to give her. Without this list you may be lost. If you’re not the legendary present-picker that I am, you’ll definitely be lost.

Sarah Connor is in Westeros

Friday, September 4th, 2009

That’s right folks. Fresh from Fox’s cancelled “Sarah Connor Chronicles”, Lena Headey has been selected to play Cersei Baratheon (Lannister) is HBO’s upcoming series “A Game of Thrones”.

She seems like a perfect choice for a show that will probably last quite a few seasons. Some have commented that she doesn’t fit the part, but come on people, that’s what wigs are for. She will be a stunning blonde that will be hated for all of the mean and nasty things that she does to our heroes. Besides, she does bare a resemblance to her future co-star, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who will play her twin brother.

More updates to come soon, and still can’t wait for next season when I’ll buy HBO and watch every single week.

Yay.
