Health Issue

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

Many people nowadays like to talk about their colons. I don’t so I will talk about what Oprah says about it or better yet what Dr Oz says about it. Apparently your poop should be shaped like an S. That’s just too gross to think about. But some people swear by things like Colonix to improve their colon health. I imagine that someone would have to strap me to a table or heavily sedate me before I did something like that even if it were declared medically necessary.

Up Up and Away

Another worthy effort from my favorite movie making machine, Pixar!

I really never thought that talking dogs could be so funny but I nearly ripped a gasket when I heard one dog talking like Alvin of chipmunk fame. Unfortunately, my kids didn’t get the joke so it was just me laughing really hard at an otherwise half decent joke.

This particular venture had a couple heart wrenching moments but I resolved not to cry and actually managed not to (can’t scare the kids too much you know).

As usual there was a wonderful short at the beginning that drew several laughs and altogether this was a very nice film to watch. Of the 11 Pixar films out so far, I would put this one somewhere in the middle.

Insurance

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

When it comes to cutting corners to make ends meet, some of us consider all the deductions taken at work and see how we can fiddle with that. Like any company we look at payroll as a way to reduce costs. I myself have started nixing some of the life insurance for our kids.

What sorts of things should you not touch? I think medical insurance goes without saying. If there’s a cheaper plan offered maybe look into it but definitely don’t get rid of it completely. Then there’s the option of getting rid of your disability insurance. Many of us haven’t invested in that in the first place but for those of us who have I think should keep it if it isn’t costing you too much. Most of the time it’s just a few dollars per month so it may be worth it even though the risk of disability is low.

The Youth of Today

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

What is this world coming to. The youth of today are so out of touch with anything that is not electric we will all be lost when the bomb (or whatever it is we’re supposed to worry about) goes off.

Not only can they not dial a rotary phone my daughter has shown that they can’t even use the bathroom anymore. We went into a restroom at a restaurant. She waved her hand in front of the toilet to get it to flush but it was manual. She waved her hands in front of the sink to get the water to run (ok, that’s how it was supposed to work but it was broken). She tried to get the soap to activate automatically and when she was done washing her hands, she hopped up and down in front of the paper towel dispenser trying to get it to work when the towels were hanging obviously from underneath.

I don’t know – maybe she thinks that’s how it works in restaurant restrooms because we don’t have those things at home. I refuse to think anything else could be the reason.
