IT jobs

Monday, January 26th, 2009

IT jobs have been it for a number of years now. Even with a monumental recession looming there are still hundreds of companies actively looking for quality information technology personnel to fill key positions in their corporation. Developers, directors, officers, managers, and engineers are all needed for jobs in IT. If you have the necessary skills and experience, you could move up the ladder while everyone else is falling off. Good for you.

I love puzzles

Monday, January 26th, 2009

All kinds really.

I’m currently working on my first jigsaw puzzle in almost 9 years. Just before we started having kids. Go figure.

I’ve also been blazing through my wife’s PennyPress puzzle book, and I tend to reduce many games like Backgammon and Cribbage to pattern puzzles.

My job is also a continual search for patterns and matching similar patterns to a common source.

I love puzzles. Don’t you?

Some pills do everything

Monday, January 26th, 2009

With the amount of weight loss pills on the market nowadays it really does seem that the pills can do just about anything. Depending on the particular brand that you pick, you can be assured of side effects ranging from aiding acne to providing a natural high. Others promise to fight the effects of aging or promoting a good night’s sleep. Whichever you choose, just make sure that a lighter wallet isn’t one of the side effects of these new diet pills.

Truly LOL

Monday, January 26th, 2009

I have rarely blurted out in laughter so loudly in the middle of the night and risked waking up my wife after hearing something on the TV, but the following made me do just that.
Personally, I would say something along the lines of bumping fists, but, yeah. Woah.

Death of the A Drive

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

All technology will eventually advance, and after reigning over the market of removable media, the 3 1/2 inch floppy disc is no longer king. My newest computer didn’t even come with one. The newest memory sticks are both immense and tiny. Smaller than a fingernail, but holding as much as a DVD or thousands of floppy discs. These shouldn’t be very expensive, so look for quality brands but priced as cheap memory sticks.

“The Spirit” review

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

It looks like Frank Miller has decided to make the jump from his successes with 300 and Sin City and direct a movie all by himself. There are some comic book writers that are continually dissatisfied with the product that Hollywood releases based on their work (Alan Moore). And then there are the writer’s that let Hollywood do whatever they want with their classic characters (Stan Lee).

Frank Miller’s effort at the helm of “The Spirit” gives us a typical comic book made large on the screen. It looks amazing, it’s way out there, but the story is, well, comic-bookish.

The stark black and white and red stands out vividly on the screen but still hasn’t worn out its welcome (yet). The action is meant to directly mimic that found in comic books and stands out as such. The way-out-ness of the the story is made even more awesome by Samuel L. Jackson doing his thing all over the place. This also kind of segues into the comic-bookishness of the movie. Sam Jackson dressed as a Nazi. Didn’t see that plot point coming. The dialogue sounds like it came straight off the page, and while this may be something good for lovers of comic books, it isn’t something good for lovers of movies.

Glad I saw it. Not glad I had to pay for it.

Every Insurance

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

A great way to save some cash during these unique times that we are living through is to have all of your insurance needs met by one single company. If you’re looking for a car insurance quote or an estimate for renter’s insurance, having them all with one provider may save you some green each month. Talk to the insurance company to find out if you can get that discount.

Stamp and McDowell

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

My wife recently noticed something that should be obvious to us all.

Malcolm McDowell and Terence Stamp are gradually becoming more and more alike. They are converging.

If you go back and look at McDowell in “A Clockwork Orange” or Terence Stamp in “Superman 2″ you wouldn’t think that they looked at all similar. But fast forward to today and they could have been separated at birth.

I think that eventually they will merge into the same person.

LCD TV

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Now that we’re officially in the new year, it is only a matter of days before your television will stop working. The traditional standard definition television channels will go off the air later this year. Now is a good time to start looking for a new high definition TV to replace the old boob tube. Might as well make it an LCD TV. Shop around online to find the best deal.

“Yes Man” review

Friday, January 2nd, 2009

Jim Carrey will always have a very special place in my movie-loving heart for many, many reasons, including but not limited to Dumb & Dumber, Ace Ventura, Liar, Liar, and The Truman Show. His most recent effort feels a return to those types of movies unlike many of his more recent, non-comedic roles. “Yes Man” tells the tale of a negative bank loan officer that is stuck in a rut with no hope and no joy in his life. Things begin to change around for him when he begins saying yes to every situation and opportunity presented to him.

The movie has many funny moments and succeeds as a whole but will not be remembered as a comedic gem, nor will it go down as one of Carrey’s best.

One of the most glaring problems is the age difference between the romantic leads. Zooey Deschanel looks like Jim Carrey’s teenage daughter, not his love interest. I did enjoy seeing the parade of former TV personalities, including representative from ‘That 70s Show’, ‘NCIS’, ‘JAG’, and ‘In Living Color’, ‘Ally McBeal’, and ‘Smallville’.

It’s a nice funny movie, and I recommend it. It’s better than most movies that make it to the multiplex. But it’s not one to buy or watch more than once.
