After having just completed a moving adventure of immense proportions, I can attest to the need for a large vehicle and help. Sometimes you don’t want a moving company to handle all of your personal items, but you need a truck large enough for all of your junk. Sometimes even the biggest moving van just won’t do. You’re going to need all 18 wheels. An innovative idea is you pack it, they haul it in the moving trucks, and then you unload it at your new residence.

Monday, September 1st, 2008Things Are Tough All Over
Monday, September 1st, 2008We all know that things are tough all over, but people are having an especially hard time in Detroit. Auto plants are shutting down, people are getting laid off and moving away, and no one wants to move to the southeastern Michigan area. One neighborhood in particular is under hard times. This article features a home that recently sold for $1.
It had been the nicest house in the neighborhood, but after the bank foreclosed, vandals stole the copper plumbing, wiring, siding, fixtures, even the kitchen sink. After the bank boarded up the house, thieves stole the plywood boards.
Desperate, the bank placed the home in MLS for $1. 19 days later it finally sold. After paying for the buyer’s closing costs, back water bills, and other costs, the bank payed over $10,000 to sell the house.
Note to self: don’t buy real estate in Michigan anytime soon.
Protecting your vacation
Monday, September 1st, 2008If you’re taking a really big vacation now that the summer is over, the option of protecting your vacation may be a worthwhile investment. Turns out you can insure just about anything nowadays. Insurance plans are available from a variety of different companies that can insure the cost of your trip, the cancellation of your trip, and even your medical coverage while on the trip to anywhere in the world. It may not be the best idea for every vacation, but look into travel insurance for your next vacation, especially big ones overseas.
Death Race review
Monday, September 1st, 2008Jason Statham’s newest action smash fest is a remake of the Roger Corman classic, Death Race 2000. While the original was a cross-country, no holds barred, low budget, dystopic view of the future, the newest version of the tale is a tightly controlled video game on a closed course.
Statham stars as a former driver framed for his wife’s murder. He is forced to drive a car for the corporate controlled prison in a reality TV-based online Death Race. Just for once, I’d like to see a large corporation as a force for good in the world instead of the source of all evil. You know, just to mix things up. Also, I wonder if a person becomes more evil because they work for a bigger corporation, or if the most evil people are drawn to the biggest companies. Or, here’s a thought. Do the people get eviler when the corporation gets bigger?
Anyway, the race completely lacks the low-budget grit of the original and instead is filled with flashy video game style special effects. It almost seems like the movie was designed to be made into a game. There are weapon and defense circles to drive over to gain power-ups and activate traps.
I didn’t go in expecting much and was still disappointed.
HDMI switches
Monday, September 1st, 2008With the coming switchover to HD, pretty soon every device will connect to your HD TV through an HDMI cable. For all of the devices that people have connected to their TV including a Blu-Ray player, XBox, and maybe even your computer, you’re going to want an HDMI cable for each of them. An HDMI switch is the way to go to keep all of your devices plugged in without having to plug and unplug wires every day.
Over Easy
Monday, September 1st, 2008For those of you in the Phoenix area looking for a good place to go get breakfast I have to highly recommend Over Easy. The prices are good, the food is good and they have REAL maple syrup sitting on the table – no extra charge! When they bring the food to your table it’s as if they cooked and brought it to you without setting it under warming lamps.
When you compare my pancakes to a regular restaurant’s pancakes, mine win because they’re less rubbery. But at Over Easy mine lose because you can actually cut their pancakes.
It’s on 40th st just south of Indian School. If you’re old enough, you’ll remember the place they’re in as an old Taco Bell. It can get busy so get there early if you want indoor seating (they open at 6:30 but I think you’d be safe even at 7:30).
Enjoy.
