Read to Me 20 Minutes Each Day

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Monday I’m going to pick up a bookcase from a friend who’s moving and won’t need it anymore.  I’ve got about 5 bookcases as it is, but I always seem to need more shelf room.  You might say I should put less clutter on the shelves, but the fact is all the shelves hold are books.  My husband and I have a library of them.

We’ve got Star Trek and Star Wars; Nancy Drew and Sweet Valley High (my husband insists we put them out – I’d just as soon leave those in a box and I’m the only one whose read them); Michael Chriton and Daniele Steele.  We’ve got science books and math books, history books and Harry Potter books.  There’s probably at least one book from every genre you can come up with including the ‘Teen Angst’ genre.

It’s getting a little bit sick , but you can hardly expect me to give these away.  I tend to forget the ending of books so I can always go back and reread them.  Except for ‘On the Beach’.  Most Depressing Ending Ever.

My Failing Memory

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

So the TV season is ending and I managed to miss the entire thing.  With the strike and then the delay in the start of the season, I missed when they started back up and now everything is over.

I’ve missed every single “House” and “Grey’s Anatomy”.  I can’t even remember when they’re supposed to be on.

Well I guess I have the summer to refigure out what’s what and what’s when.

No wonder viewership is still down since the strike — no one can remember when their favorite show used to be on.

Get In On This

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

Many celebrities make the best dressed list each time the Oscars or awards season rolls around. It doesn’t seem like any one person makes it 100% of the time, though. Apparently, they just don’t always know what the current ‘it’ thing is.

I must admit, I would usually end up on the Worst Dressed List at any event because my style is VERY casual.

If you’re interested in classic style, you may want to get in on the Dockers TV Commercial Contest. If you win, your commercial will be shown during an episode of “Late Night with Jay Leno”. You can get your creative juices flowing and see what comes of your best effort.

Even if you don’t win, you’ll have something to add to your portfolio when you go out job hunting in your chosen field.

I can picture it now. You enter the interview and they say they’re looking for someone with experience. You say you have experience (sure, unpaid but still experience) and you show them your work. If you’re trying to get into directing and the like, they’ll love the unexpected direction you took the commercial.

If you’re looking into getting into advertising, they’ll ask you to develope the one commercial into a multi faceted campaign as a challenge to your abilities. The next day you come back with action figure Dockers and blow them out of the water, landing the job.

If you’re trying to get into fashion design, you can point out the way you dressed the extras to make them all look so good.

Good luck in the Dockers contest. This is going to be great!

Get Into This

So have you entered the contest yet?

What do you mean, “What contest?”

Of course I mean the Dockers TV Commercial Contest.

You may have some stiff competition like this one:

But if you are creative, you may still have a chance to get in on this. If you win, your Dockers contest commercial will be shown during an episode of “Late Night with Jay Leno”. This could be a golden opportunity for someone aspiring to directing, production or marketing and advertising. You can get your creative juices flowing and see what comes of your best effort. Sharing the Roads

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

I just read an article about something called “Ride of Silence”.  It’s about bicyclists trying to bring attention to the need for drivers to watch out for them on the roads and make them realize that they need to share the roads with bike riders.  They’re going to go from somewhere in Mesa to a park in Tempe and back, silent all the way, to raise awareness.  It’s a grass roots effort with no sign ups, no fees to ride, no t-shirts to buy.

I think the goal is good.

I think the way they’re trying to reach the goal is ridiculous.  Except for this article (and based on the way they’re doing everything else that was probably an accident) they don’t really plan on explaining to anyone what they’re doing.  It should be “Ride of Yelling” where they go through the city streets yelling at people who come close to sideswiping them.  Something like, “GET OFF THE ROAD!!!” should do it.

They should try to get the police to ride with them so people will be ticketed for not following the laws.

They should hold keys in their street side hand so they can key any cars that come too close and carry signs on their backs that say as much like, “If you can read this, I’ve just keyed your car and you came inches from killing me.”
