Scare Me More!!

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Scary movies make me want to scream.

I suppose that’s the idea, but when the people around you look at you like you’re a weirdo and say stuff like, “This is SOOO not scary,” you might feel a little small and try to stifle it. This just means you need to go to a movie that’s going to scare everyone in the place. Like “Frontier(s)“.

This movie is so scary and gory, the makers decided to release it unrated knowing it would get an NC-17 rating based on the violence and goriness alone. This is hardly ever done. First off, movies usually need a high level of overt sex to get this rating. Second off, releasing without a rating means fewer theatres will be willing to deal with the backlash of showing it. there’s always going to be someone who doesn’t look at a synopsis before going into a movie and assumes they know what it is about based on the title.

With this one, they’d probably think it’s about 17th century pilgrims or something and take it out on the staff when they realize what they’ve bought a ticket for. So this can be a controversial move, but the makers believed cutting it down enough to get a ‘R’ rating would compromise the integrity of the film.

So they left it. There was only one theater in the state showing it and it was close by. If you like scary movies, you can view the trailer and then see if you can still find it in the theatres. The movie was released May9th and the DVD release was a week later so you might only find it in DVD.

Playing “House”

Friday, May 16th, 2008

So I’ve put myself out there again when I think I said I wouldn’t but I did it anyway.  I’m trying to diagnose another person’s illness.  I’ve got it narrowed down to gout or hypothyroidism and I think I’m going to guess hypothyroidism for the person.

Don’t worry – the person already decided my chosen method of diagnosis (get a couple symptoms together and google them)  wasn’t the best choice so he/she went to the doctor to get a real diagnosis.

Hey, if I can’t play “House” with the people I know, what can I do to occupy my time?

Getting Help

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Drug rehab can be the most trying time of an addicts life, but it is also the beginning of a fresh start.  Without the many rehab facilities available, it would be next to impossible to find the help that recovering addicts need to get their lives back on track.  If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction, please consider looking into getting help at a rehab facility.

A Camping He Will Go

Friday, May 16th, 2008

My son is going on his first boy scout camping trip far away from home. My husband’s going with him and right now, they are staying up late to get ready. We wouldn’t want to have started this any more than 12 hours before they’re leaving because that would have made it possible to find everything.

How am I supposed to know where the neckerchief that’s been missing for a week is in the middle of the night? It’s unlikely I’ll get up early to look for it more tomorrow. Alas, his uniform will be incomplete. The thought actually grates on my nerves but since I’m not going, I imagine I’ll find a way to handle it.

I’m making them take the camera in hopes they will take plenty of pictures so I can live vicariously through the images they bring back. Here’s hoping he doesn’t wander off into the night.

DeathNote

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Have you heard of manga? I hadn’t until I saw a whole section of it at the bookstore and my sister looked at me like I’d been living under a rock because I didn’t know what it was. I’ve since educated myself.

For those of you who know about manga or are interested in finding out, I thought I’d let you know about “DeathNote“, the movie based on the superNatural magna series coming to theatres for only 2 days on May 20th and May 21st and there’s only one showing each day. When someone’s name is written in this supernatural notebook, they die. The character ‘Light’ gets ahold of the book and starts putting the names of criminals in it.

One of the most interesting tidbits about this film is that it’s live action – quite a change from what we probably all expect from our favorite magna series. If you go see this, you should know that it is unrated but would probably get an ‘R’ rating so it’s not for young kids.

On a side note, if I had one supernatural ability, it would be the ability to pass though solid objects at will. I had to add the ‘at will’ part because I always wonder why ghosts and the like can go through walls but don’t fall through the floor.

Belly Ache

Friday, May 16th, 2008

All this talk of health woes and I forget to talk about anything else.  I moan, I complain and I forget to tell you stuff like “the house sold” or “We’re moving into a house with a 4 car garage.  We’ll just be renting it but it’s bigger than here, even when you don’t include the garages, and the commutes will be about 1/4 of what they are now.  Our cash flow should improve considerably which means we can actually put a dent in the amount we’ll need for a down payment.

All good news.  Sure I could complain about the lack of fencing, but we can use the garage as a yard.  I could complain about the lack of shrubbery, but I’d just have to deal with transplanting the ones my son adopts when we move.  I could complain about the move….

Yeah! I think I’ll do that!

Moving STINKS!  And we’re not doing it once, but twice.  We’re moving out of the house into my parents house for 2 weeks and then from there to the new place.  I makes for a stressful move since everything has do go into storage – except for this that and the other thing that we can’t do without for 2 weeks.

Oh, that feels better.  And I know you were all dying to hear me belly ache.

Blood and Guts Rates NC-17

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I almost ripped my husband thumb off during a scary movie. That would have resulted in a real bloodbath instead of the simulated ones we were watching. Fortunately for him, he was able to get it away from me before it came off. He used to try to get me to see scary movies, but not so much anymore. And when he does, he is VERY protective of his thumbs.

Frontier(s)” is one of those movies he might like seeing. The trailer gives you a hint of the gore involved in it. Apparently, it’s so bloody, it got an NC17 rating from the MPAA just for the violence. That’s pretty impressive since the MPAA can be weird with it’s ratings (like with “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” cartoon that had pole dancing and other sexual overtones but still got a ‘G’ rating).

It opened in theatres on a limited, unrated bases on May 9th because the makers didn’t want to cut it to pieces in order to get the ‘R’ rating. In a gutsy move, they kept the movie as it was and went the unrated route, which can be quite difficult since theaters don’t often like to show those. In fact, it has already had its DVD release (on May 13th) so you can go look for it at your favorite horror movie store.

Enjoy and I hope you don’t lose your lunch.

Groooaaaannn….Moooooaaannn…

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I have a miserable cold.

The kind that fills your head with snot and makes you think if only you could drill a small hole in your forehead, everything would be so much better.

The kind that makes you want to sign your life away at the pharmacy just so you can get some of the cold medicine that actually works.

The kind that tricks you into thinking your better the next morning when you open your eyes, but then comes raging back as soon as you sit up in bed.

My voice is artificially sultry, so I can’t talk to anyone.  My nose is red and raw to the point that I can’t sniff without being in pain.  I want to cough but I’m afraid that will hurt too.  I think I’ll just let it develop into pneumonia.

Travel Much?

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I once went to Las Vegas. It wasn’t one of those “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” visits since I went with my mother-in-law (and two sisters-in-law), but it was still a lot of fun and the most daring I’d ever been on a grown up vacation. (I make it out like they were crimping my style when, really, if anyone was crimping style was tea-totalling me.)

We went on a roller coaster that I thought I was going to fall out of and die, got massages, saw a show, gambled and toured the strip. I almost went on one of those gigantic rubber band things that shoots you into the air and you bounce up and down for a while but it was closed. Looking back, I’m kind of glad about that.

If you are thinking about planning a fun vacation for yourself soon, look into Trusted Tours & Attractions.
