Tax Alert

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

You only have 6 days left to file your taxes.  Of course you’ve been planning for this day for an entire year and now that it’s here and you know you’ll be receiving a huge refund, you filed two weeks ago.  Or you’re like me and you decided to wait for the very last payday possible instead of kiting a check on Uncle Sam.

Even if you’re one of the people who don’t file taxes usually, you should this year because that’s the only way you’ll get your hands on that rebate check the government passed so ‘quickly’ in order to avert recession.  I guess their definition of fast and my definition of fast differ on a fundamental level.  Or maybe it’s an East Coast thing I just don’t understand.

So go fill out that 1040EZ and make sure you keep a copy for yourself.

New web directory

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Back in my early years of internet life (college), there was a plethora of search engines that promised to find you everything that you could want to find in the blink of an eye. Google was in its infancy and had not yet come to dominate the web. I think Webcrawler was the first search site that I ever used. After awhile I settled on Yahoo. It used Google to conduct its searches but also featured a search of its own categories. I usually never even had to go down to the Google results because I found what I wanted in the categories.

I kind of miss this option in my searches but recently came across a new category-based web directory called Dirmania. It’s a free web directory that allows users to post their site in a specific category for users to search and find what they’re looking for. The old directories sometimes took weeks or months to look at your submission and get it posted live on their site. Dirmania can get your site posted in 24 hours. Good deal for a free site.

We all have to do what we can to challenge the giant search sites. Hopefully, a return to the good old days of searching a directory of categories and actually finding what you’re looking for is a step in the right direction.

Your very own time machine

News update!

You no longer need a Delorian to travel through time. Coming soon to a store near you are replica flux capacitors that will allow you to turn any vehicle from a Yugo to a Gremlin into a 4th dimensional automobile. Bat wing doors and flying cars not required.

The only question remaining is where to mount it in your ride.
