My Valentine’s Ideas (Don’t Steal Them)

Friday, January 18th, 2008

So have you figured it out yet? You know what I’m talking about – the dreaded V day and what you’re going to get for that certain someone. Not to mention all those little certain someones you call your kids. If you’ve done this ‘holiday’ before you know that if you don’t get just the right gift, it can send a message that you don’t know you’ve sent until your birthday rolls around. This year, let’s all try to get creative early. Or, if you’re like me, just come up with any decent idea at all early.

Whether you’re going to knit sweaters for little Janie and Johnny and get the supplies at JoAnn’s or getting a dozen roses for your hubby at 1-800-Flowers you can rest a little easier if you use a coupon from Coupon Chief. They have the biggest aray of online coupons I’ve seen and I know they can make your budget stretch a little further for Valentine’s Day. (You’ve been responsible and made a budget for this, right?)

Stinking Painting!!!

Friday, January 18th, 2008

When last I spoke of this, I said I was getting ready to paint.  What a horrible thing painting is.  I think I would almost not buy a house that I otherwise loved even if only the paint needed redoing.  I started by peeling off all this old, nasty contact paper getting a thousand paper cuts under my nails.

Then I went through all the cabinets and primed, managing to get covered in primer in the process.  Turns out this stuff doesn’t come off that easily so I’ve been going out in public with this stuff in my hair.

Then I started the first coat of paint and it looked HORRIBLE.  Of course then I began to panic thinking that I had managed to turn my awful looking kitchen into an even worse looking kitchen and wasted tons of time and money in the process.  Fortunately, when I put on the second coat (something I hadn’t thought I would need to do because I had primed) it started looking better.

Now I’m just covered in the regular kind of paint which comes off alot more easily and the end is in sight.  I hope to be done today.  With the painting anyway – the putting stuff back part I don’t know when I’ll get to.

Gift Ideas for Your Loved One

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I think Valentine’s Day is my least favorite holiday. There’s all this pressure to give a gift that says all you feel for your loved one but how do you wrap up all that emotion in something like a colorful mug? I know from experience that you don’t.

Maybe you can think of what you are looking for in a Valentine’s Day gift and figure that if you like it, they’ll like it. If you aren’t a romantic and they are, this could go terribly wrong so watch out.

I guess the best way to go is to try to make it romantic. If they don’t like romance, they’ll still get the idea that you’re trying. Buy chocolates or flowers – it doesn’t matter if your buying for a guy or gal, these still work.

Another idea is to take a nice picture and plan on putting it in a frame. If you take it a step further and have it changed into art (like you can do at Photofiddle.com) it’ll look even better and you’ll be sure to impress even the least sentimental of people.

Good luck – with all this pressure, we’re all going to need it.

Vacation or Not?

When my husband left town for the week I passingly wished that my oldest didn’t have to go to school so we could just stay home all the time.  I almost got my wish but it didn’t turn out the way I really meant it.  See, the child ended up with a wicked fever/cold/hacking cough and now that you aren’t supposed to give cold medicine to kids anymore, all I could do was try to get him to rest.  That didn’t really work out.  Eventually he got better and he’s back at school but I think I’ll have to be more careful when I wish for things next time.
