Friday, January 11th, 2008Bring Back Papa Smurf
Friday, January 11th, 2008Another Saturday is coming and that means another Saturday completely devoid of decent cartoons. It wouldn’t matter so much if I didn’t have kids, but I do and they miss out on what it’s like to sacrifice hours of sleep to get up to watch as many cartoons as possible – it’s like an American tradition. Because there are no good cartoons, my children will not learn how to be true patriots. Yeah, that’s pretty extreme and I’m really just kidding about that part though I am serious about cartoons being almost a total waste of time. It wasn’t so long ago that the cartoons were good enough for parents to watch and enjoy. ‘Recess’ is still one of my all time favorite cartoons (it didn’t even start showing until I was an adult) and it had much to teach to school age children about what to expect on the playground. I’d pick ‘Gem’ over any episode of the current incarnation of ‘Strawberry Shortcake’. As far as I know they don’t make more than 13 episodes a season anyway so they seem to always be doing reruns. Why not rerun the good cartoons? Bring back Papa Smurf!!

Friday, January 11th, 2008Big Dog Stock Picks offers an opportunity to provide growth to up and coming companies by selecting them as their penny stock picks. After researching companies both nationally and internationally, they recommend those companies that are the best financial choices to investors. Their website has several useful sections, the most eye catching of which is the ticker at the top of their home page. When you visit , remember to check out the press release section near the bottom.
Give Me My Tax Forms!
Friday, January 11th, 2008If you’re like me, you’re dying for your tax forms to show up in the mail. I just want to get this filing thing done and over with. I’m probably going to get a refund so that’s an added incentive to finish it early. I can’t understand why my student loan provider can update my records just days after I make a payment but can’t find a program that will automatically tabulate my interest payed until the absolute last day required by law. Where does it say that getting it done early would make them lose money? Well, good luck to you with your return.
Looking for Love in All the Wrong Places?
Friday, January 11th, 2008Looking for someone to love and not having any success? Maybe you should try the internet. Even after all the years that people have been doing it, this is often considered weird and many people end up too embarrassed to try. You hear stories about how couples meet on the computer but don’t meet in person for years afterward but that doesn’t have to be your story. It doesn’t have to be like you meet, date and get married on the internet – just use it to make that first connection and then get together with those people who make you think there might be a future. Use it as a tool to power through all those bad dates you would have had and skip ahead to the date that changes your life.
We’ve all heard the commercials telling us to just sign up and you’ll get connected to other singles like you. What they don’t say is that they want money for the service. That’s all well and good if you think you should have to pay for the service. I’m a little more frugally minded so I would look for something free if I were you. Take, for example, date-o-mat.com. Such a funny name for such a novel idea. It’s a FREE social dating network for singles and friends. You don’t have to pay to connect with someone who may not even be compatible with you. No algorithm anywhere is going to match you with that perfect someone on the first try so why pay for the opportunity to date a dud?
But really look at this for what it is. Even if you don’t find Mr or Miss right on the first try, or if you’re looking for something more platonic you’ll be able to make as many new friends as you want to. So give the site a look see and see if it’s for you.
Dewey and Obama
Friday, January 11th, 2008The Obama defeat in New Hampshire reminded me of the “Dewey Defeats Truman” headline from the 40s – wrong because they didn’t wait for the results. Although I don’t know what poll it was that put Obama ahead by double digits, no poll I’ve seen has had a margin of error that large so the results were just plain wrong. It kinda nice to know that even in an age where so much importance is placed on polls that the variable of people changing their minds cannot be statistically removed from the equation.
Business Owners: Ask Yourself These Questions
Friday, January 11th, 2008Did you know that when you start up your business, you’ll have some complex questions to answer at tax time? For example, what tax year are you going to follow? You don’t necessarily have to go from Jan 1 to Jan 1 so you have to figure out what would be best for your company. Have you considered what kind of company you are going to be? Usually small business choose between LLC and S corporation but exactly what are the benefits of choosing LLC vs S corporation status? Unless you have an accounting degree, I highly recommend talking to a tax professional long before the tax season begins so that you can have these questions settled early and can adjust your business so that you are not hindered by whatever you choose when the end of the tax year comes.
Headaches
Friday, January 11th, 2008I occasionally get migraines and they are really strange experiences for me. I always know when one is coming on because it starts with me not being able to see. But the loss is selective – one time, I just couldn’t read the number 5. The other day it was like every light was as bright as the sun. I had to shade my eyes to look at the computer screen and kinda glance at it out of the corner of my eye. Then if I go to a dark, silent room until it passes I don’t get the headache portion of the show. Unfortunately, I don’t get too many of those opportunities. In the mean time, I can have a small degree of fun with it telling ridiculous stories about how I couldn’t read the number 5.
Mesothelioma help
Friday, January 11th, 2008Mesothelioma is a cancer that is caused from asbestos fibers taken into our bodies. The cancer starts in the areas of the body that surround vital organs. There is no cure as yet for the worst kinds of mesothelioma, but treatments used for other kinds of cancer like surgery and chemotherapy can fight less serious forms of the disease.

Conan spins his ring
Friday, January 11th, 2008I really hope the writer’s strike ends soon.
In the mean time, I must endure watching Conan spin his wedding ring like a top on his desk with a drum roll playing. The wah-wah-wah sound from the trumpet section whenever he fails to set a new record is the most annoying part. I mean, come on, the Late Night show is known for much better bits than this to open the show. Right?
On the other hand, maybe the ring thing ain’t so bad.
